MAY 26 - JULY 16 ¬ WHAT SOUND DOES A COLOUR MAKE? EYEBEAM.
NYC. USA
A new travelling exhibition, organized + circulated by Independent Curators
International [ICI], presents contemporary + historical works by an internationally
diverse group of artists who manipulate sound with image + image with
sound. Curated by Kathleen Forde, the exhibition features artists who
likewise use technology to inspire a renewed consciousness of highly un-technological
experiences — physicality, human cognition, + perception. The exhibition
has been reveiwed in the New York Times. 2 x Films from the D-Tonate
DVD are featured in the exhibition also D-Fuse's Light Turned Down
from D-Tonate DVD with Audio by Scanner has a stand alone
screening. www.ici-exhibitions.org www.eyebeam.org http://query.nytimes.com
MAY 26 - SEPTEMBER 30 ¬ BECK WORLD TOUR EUROPE, WEST COAST.
USA. + FUJI ROCK. JAPAN
Following our success with the Guero DVD for Beck, D-Fuse have
created a live show for the tour. Our fantastic resident D-Fuse VJ
Bunzo Ono has been mixing the show using Pioneer DVJ X1 decks
and v4 mixers, with added sources on hard drive + laptop. The stage was
designed in conjunction with Paul Normandale of lite-alternative. We are
using multiple transparent screens + 5 projector sources built into
a matrix, giving Bunzo the ultimate in flexibility. Beck performs a new
set every night from a pool of 70 songs, so Bunzo is kept on his toes.
"There will be dining room tables onstage," says Beck, "and
meals will be had." He won't elaborate, but Beck is hinting at one
of the many surprises of his summer tour. Though only a handful of West
Coast dates have been confirmed, Beck will ultimately tour all the way
across the U.S. He and his band (which welcomes back Ryan, the world's
greatest dancer) have seventy songs under their belt, including new versions
of songs like The Golden Age, from Sea Change. Beck is also stoked
about the visuals. For nine months he's been working with London art collective
D-Fuse on backdrop projections, which will be mixed live by a Tokyo video-DJ
named Bunzo. At one point it looks like the stage is a spaceship flying
into warp speed, Beck says. It's amazing.

JULY¬ DEFUSING BECK RES ONLINE MAGAZINE. USA.
JULY¬ BECKS BUZZ MACHINE WIRED MAGAZINE. USA.
Good Feature in Res Online by Sandy Hunter. "One of the more
interesting music DVDs to surface of late is the Beck Guero limited edition
DVD created by D-Fuse to coincide with the release of Beck's new album
of the same name. The London-based visual collective seems to have truly
relished putting together the 30+ unique videos comprising the disc's
content"
Whilst in June's issue of Wired magazine "For Beck - the grandson
of 1960s Fluxus artist Al Hansen, who advocated intermedia collaboration
- jamming with animators + videographers comes naturally. "It's an
interesting time in the music business, with videogames becoming more
culturally dominant than albums," he observes. "When a new game
comes out, it's this coveted object, the way a Stones or a Beatles record
was back in the day. Guero is a real early step in a direction with a
lot of possibilities."
Beck hired artists at D-Fuse in the UK to design more than 100 videostreams
for the double-disc CD/DVD-Audio version of Guero. "Beck can imagine
creative processes quite far down the line, like a game of chess,"
says D-Fuse's Michael Faulkner. "He's thinking 100 things at once.
